Are you confused by Facebook, Twitter, Linked In and all of those social media terms? Is it all just a confusing new world for you and you feel like the only person on the planet who doesn't have a clue about social media? Can they really help you get a job, find new customers for your community project and spread the word about your upcoming community event? Now's your chance to find out with experienced, friendly people.
What's a Social Media Surgery?
A Social Media Surgery is an informal gathering at which volunteer "surgeons" with expertise in social media, offer free advice to representatives of non-profit organisations, charities, community groups, activists, or individuals who need a bit of a hand to get their life back on track (for example, if you are unemployed, disabled, etc).
Format: Hands on!! For approximately 30 minutes, you will sit with to someone who understands good ways to use the internet. Someone who will listen to what you do, and then show you free, useful tools which can help you to learn more about how to use the web to communicate your message, to run a campaign or to collaborate with other individuals and organisations. If you like what you see they can also help you set up your blog, Facebook page or Twitter account. It may be that this is not for you but if you know or work with someone you think would benefit then please do pass the information over to them.
Surgeries are relaxed and informal and hands on. No presentations, no jargon unexplained and importantly with nobody telling people what they think they should know. They work on a first come first served basis, with half hour slots booked in... you can always have a cup of tea and a chat while you wait if all the 'surgeons' are with other people!
You can find out more about the history of Social Media Surgeries http://socialmediasurgery.com/ and follow Nick Booth who started them up in the UK on Twitter @PodNosh (if you are already up on how Twitter works)
So sign up today by phoning Cambridge Online on 01223 300 407 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org

Net2Camb is a free monthly event for people in and around the Cambridge area interested in using web or mobile technology for social good. Whether you are a nonprofit organization in the traditional sense, a venture capitalist, a programmer, an individual with a great idea, or a social changemaker, Net2Camb is here to help you make connections and create a community around innovating for good in Cambridge. These events are great opportunities to learn what others are trying, see successful projects and platforms, hear about developing technologies, make new friends and collaborate on new projects. Net2Camb is one of the many meetups of NetSquared, meaning that we are not alone! There are meetups just like this all around the world! And Netsquared is part of TechSoup, who help get technology into the hands of Non Profits. Cool huh?
This event is free and open to anyone interested in learning about using web and mobile technology for social benefit.
